“PiLab” designing Google’s Employee Management Strategy

Fortune Magazine have named Google the “The Best Company to Work For”, consecutively since last five years running in 2014. The employees get to have free gourmet food, on site laundry, commuting shuttles with Wi-Fi. The five month maternity leave is fully paid with full benefits.

People & Innovation Lab
To pull off this marvelous achievement, Google have hired social scientists to study the organization.
They are part of a group called “PiLab”(People & Innovation Laboratory), running experiments with employees, trying to solve several problems.

In a survey it has been found that Googlers want their extra cash in base pay. So they announced that all the employees would get 10% salary increase instead of any bonus. Google also takes care of savings for the employees, spreading awareness on regular basis. The HR has found it best to send employees aggressive saving goals, forcing them to do some serious saving.

Google Cafeteria
Then there are some small findings too. The researchers determined that in the cafeteria the lunch time should be 3 mins to 4 mins long so that the employees don’t waste time but are able to meet new people. The tables are long so that the people who don’t know each other are forced to chat. An experiment proved that stocking 20cm plates beside 30cm plates encourage people to eat smaller and healthier portion. These few things show, how they take every bit of their business seriously.
